Are you a Doctors of BC member in good-standing who wants to get involved in the association at a meaningful level? With more than 60 member-run committees advocating on behalf of physicians and BC citizens alike, we deal with a diverse range of issues, including policy development, physician health and well-being, continuing medical education (CME), financial management of the Association, and the promotion of health in general.

Diversity and Inclusion are important values for Doctors of BC, and we strive to ensure our governance bodies and committees reflect the rich diversity of our membership in a safe and collegial environment. We therefore encourage all members who have the necessary requirements for any of the following committees to apply. This includes all applicants from different backgrounds in terms of gender identity, race, ethnicity, Indigenous identity, disability, sexual orientation, language, and/or any other areas of diversity or identity.

1. Specialist Services Committee – SECOND CALL

Doctors of BC is seeking one Surgical Specialist Alternate member to be appointed to the Specialist Services Committee (SSC). While the SSC desires to have physicians with various practice perspectives, the successful applicant is expected to represent all Specialist Physicians at SSC on behalf of the Doctors of BC, irrespective of specialty, mode of compensation, practice location or organization.

The Specialist Services Committee facilitates collaboration between the Government, the Doctors of BC and the Health Authorities on the delivery of the services of Specialist Physicians to British Columbians and to support the improvement of the specialist care system. 

2. Alternative Payment Physicians Issues Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking one Sessionally Contracted Specialist member to be appointed to the Alternative Payment Physicians Issues Committee (APPIC).

The APPIC is a standing committee of the Doctors of BC that engages with Alternate Payment physicians and advises on issues affecting physicians who receive a portion of their remuneration through salaries, service contracts and/or sessions. 

The APPIC provides input and recommendations on the mandate for negotiations and on the activities of joint Doctors of BC/Government Committees.

3. Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Advisory Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking one member to be appointed to the Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Advisory Committee.

This role calls for a strong foundation in EDI and the ability to advise on equitable practices that centre around safety, respect, and inclusion for all. We are committed to creating a brave space for thoughtful engagement, meaningful collaboration, and the sharing of diverse perspectives to drive impactful change.

4. Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues

Doctors of BC is seeking one Family Physician member to be appointed to the Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues.

The Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues is established to enhance the delivery of rural health care with a primary focus on recruitment and retention. The JSC is comprised of members from Doctors of BC, members of Ministry of Health, and includes Health Authority participation. The goals of the JSC are to enhance the availability and stability of services provided by physicians in smaller urban, rural and remote areas of British Columbia by addressing some of the uniquely demanding and difficult circumstances attendant upon the provision of those services by physicians.

5. Medical Services Commission

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for one Physician member to be appointed to the Medical Services Commission. This position will be effective October 2025.

Both Specialists and General Practitioners are encouraged to apply.

Under the Medicare Protection Act, the function of the Medical Services Commission is to facilitate, in the manner provided for in the Act, reasonable access, throughout British Columbia, to quality medical care, health care and diagnostic facility services for residents of British Columbia under the Medical Services Plan.

All Doctors of BC members who have been recommended by the Board of Directors will have to be approved by the Crown Agency Board Resourcing Office (CABRO) before the appointment becomes official.

6. Provincial Laboratory Physician Workload Model Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for one Anatomic Pathologist Specialist member to be appointed to the Provincial Laboratory Physician Workload Model Committee.

The purpose of the Provincial Laboratory Physician Workload Model Committee is to determine how the anatomical pathology workload model will be used in or related to local laboratory physician contracts, continue development and validation of a clinical pathology workload model, and determine how the clinical pathology workload model will be used in or related to local laboratory physician compensation contracts.

7. Tariff Committee

 Doctors of BC is seeking one Specialist Physician member to be appointed to the Tariff Committee.

The Tariff Committee is authorized to study and report to the Board of Directors on all matters concerning medical economics. This includes:

  • Reviewing and recommending Fee Guide changes submitted by Sections,

  • Providing information, clarification and direction to Sections and members on MSP billing matters and policy, and

  • Maintaining protocols and policies related to the process to make Fee Guide changes.
     

8. The Hamber Foundation

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for one Doctors of BC member to sit on The Hamber Foundation’s Board of Governors. The terms for this position are two three-year terms.

The Hamber Foundation is a voluntary external committee. There is no remuneration for this voluntary position.

The Hamber Foundation makes grants for cultural, educational, and charitable purposes within the Province of British Columbia. The Foundation prefers to support specific projects rather than contributing to general sustaining assistance or to large capital projects. Grants are awarded only to institutions and organizations registered as “educational” or “charitable” under the Canadian Income Tax Act and which are in possession of a registration number in good standing at the date of the application.

9. WorkSafeBC Negotiating Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking applications to fill two member positions on the WorkSafeBC Negotiating Committee. Specifically, we are looking for:

  • One Specialist Physician

  • One Family Physician

A Chair of the WorkSafeBC Negotiating Committee is required and will be appointed by the Doctors of BC Board of Directors. Candidates may indicate their interest in the Chair position. Members of the WorkSafeBC Negotiating Committee also participate as members of the WorkSafeBC Negotiations Coordinating Group.

The WorkSafeBC Negotiating Committee is responsible for carrying out the negotiating directives of the Doctors of BC Board with regard to the Doctors of BC – WorkSafeBC Physician Services Agreement and the Doctors of BC – WorkSafeBC Salaried Physicians’ Agreement.
