1. Alternative Payment Physicians Issues Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking one Service Contracted Specialist member to be appointed to the Alternative Payment Physicians Issues Committee (APPIC).

The APPIC is a standing committee of the Doctors of BC that engages with Alternate Payment physicians and advises on issues affecting physicians who receive a portion of their remuneration through salaries, service contracts and/or sessions.  

The APPIC provides input and recommendations on the mandate for negotiations and on the activities of joint Doctors of BC/Government Committees.

2. Audit and Inspection Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking one member to be appointed as the Doctors of BC representative to Audit and Inspection Committee.

The AIC is a committee under the Physician Master Agreement and is responsible for the auditing and inspection of the practices of medical practitioners and has been delegated the powers and duties of the MSC under Section 36 (1) to (12) of the Act.

The successful candidate is nominated by the Doctors of BC to the AIC but must first be approved by the Medical Service Commission before the appointment is official.

3. Family Practice Services Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for one Family Practitioner Co-Chair for the Family Practice Services Committee (FPSC).

The FPSC is the leading collaborative table for primary health care transformation in BC, and under the Physician Master Agreement, is a vehicle for representatives of the Government, the Doctors of BC, health authorities and BC Family Doctors to work together on matters affecting the provision of primary care services by Family Physicians (FPs) in British Columbia.

4. Insurance Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for two member-at-large physicians to be appointed to the Insurance Committee.

The Insurance Committee

  • Sets policy regarding all matters related to Doctors of BC member insurance programs
  • Reviews and accepts/rejects proposals made by Doctors of BC employees regarding the insurance programs.
  • Provides advice and guidance to the HBTF Board of Trustees regarding benefits provided under the Health Benefits Trust Fund plans.
  • Works in cooperation with the Benefits Advisory Committee (BAC), reviews matters related to the operation of the Physicians’ Disability Insurance plan; recommends plan changes to the BAC for presentation to the Joint Benefits Committee.
  • Recommends changes in policy, programs, and new programs to the Board.
  • Reviews requests by members to intervene with insurers and advocate on members’ behalf when the Committee deems the insurer’s actions inappropriate.

5. Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues

Doctors of BC is seeking one Family Physician member to be appointed to the Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues (JSC).

The Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues is established to enhance the delivery of rural health care with a primary focus on recruitment and retention. The JSC is comprised of members from Doctors of BC, members of Ministry of Health, and includes Health Authority participation.

The goals of the JSC are to enhance the availability and stability of services provided by physicians in smaller urban, rural and remote areas of British Columbia by addressing some of the uniquely demanding and difficult circumstances attendant upon the provision of those services by physicians.

6. Negotiations Forum

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for one physician member who provides services in a Rural Community as designated under the Physician Master Agreement to serve on the Negotiations Forum.

The Negotiations Forum is responsible for making a recommendation to the Doctors of BC Board of Directors on the mandate to govern provincial negotiations between the Doctors of BC and any external organization. In 2024 and 2025, this will include negotiations with Government for a new Physician Master Agreement and negotiations with WorkSafeBC for new agreements covering physicians who provide services funded by WorkSafeBC.

7. Physician Health Program Steering Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for the Co-Chair to be appointed to the Physician Health Program Steering Committee.

The committee governs the Physician Health Program by:

  • Periodically developing and approving a multi-year strategic plan;
  • Developing and approving annually a work plan and budget for the program;
  • Approving annually an operating budget for the program; and
  • Approving and reviewing from time to time the policies governing the operation of the Program.

8. Specialist Services Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking one Specialist in active practice to be the Co-Chair and Doctors of BC voting representative to the Specialist Services Committee.

The Specialist Services Committee facilitates collaboration between the Government, the Doctors of BC and the Health Authorities on the delivery of the services of Specialist Physicians to British Columbians and to support the improvement of the specialist care system (Section 5.1 of the Specialist Subsidiary Agreement).

9. Tariff Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for one Specialist member to be appointed to the Tariff Committee.

The Tariff Committee is authorized to study all matters concerning medical economics and report the same to Board of Directors. This includes reviewing and recommending Fee Guide changes submitted by Sections, providing information, clarification and direction to Sections and members on MSP billing matters and policy, and maintaining protocols and policies related to the process to make Fee Guide changes.
