Insurance for Doctors

Critical Illness

Benefits

In the event of a critical illness, your focus should be on your recovery and not your finances. Available to you and your spouse, Critical illness insurance (CI) provides a one-time tax-free lump-sum benefit payment if you are diagnosed with one of 25 covered conditions. CI coverage pays in addition to disability insurance and regardless if you’re working.

You can use the payment to help cover:

  • Medical costs or expensive treatments that may not be covered by your supplemental health insurance and/or government health care plan

  • Health care or experimental treatment outside of Canada

  • Replacing a family member’s salary while they care for you

  • Personal or business loan payments

  • Child care expenses

  • Home maintenance or renovation

Special offer

New Doctors of BC members are eligible for $50,000 in coverage for themselves and their spouse without providing proof of good health if you apply for coverage within 90 days of becoming a new member for the first time. A pre-existing condition limitation will apply to this coverage.
