I am (a) Canadian (doctor)

January 2, 2019

With apologies to Joe from Molson

Hey, I don't have a test for all the cancers or allergies...
I don't work at a hospital more dramatic than your average high school...
and I don't know Jimmy, Sally, or Suzy who got into medical school,
although I'm certain they're really, really nice.

I have a College, not a government agency; an Association, not a union…
I speak English and French and Greek and Latin and whatever else my patients teach me…
And I pronounce it TIN-i-tus, not tin-I-tis.

I can proudly wear my MD Management bag while backpacking (even decades later)…
I believe in prevention, not polypharmacy,
diversity and inclusion, not assimilation,
and that the rod of Asclepius is a truly proud and noble staff.
A scrub cap is a hat, a chesterfield is a couch (found in doctors' lounges that remain),
and Gwyneth Paltrow is wrong about everything. Everything.

Although medicine is the second loneliest profession,
patients are my first concern…
and despite the forms and administration,
helping others is the best part of my work!

My name is Eric! And I am a Canadian Doctor!!
