We are grateful to have permission to hold this session on the unceded, ancestral, and traditional territories of the W̱SÁNEC people, in the ancient village of SȾÁUTW̱ and in their sacred home (longhouse).

  • The event is being held for residents working in the health care sector living or practicing in or around Saanichton.
  • Please register early. Sessional time and mileage exceeding 50km one-way will be covered by the JCCs.

What are experiential learning sessions?

Participants will learn about cultural safety, experience traditional food, songs, protocols, language, history, and stories. Participants will experience:

  • Cultural safety teachings through an immersive, “circle and the box” learning
  • Teachings and protocols from local/regional Indigenous communities
  • A shared meal, language, history, and stories
  • A deeper understanding of residential school trauma.
  • Connections with local health staff and providers.
  • The opportunity for on-going learning and relationship-building between participants and Indigenous communities.
