The committee’s activities focus on collaborative change and quality improvement initiatives, with the goal of informing appropriate allocation of services between providers, making fee recommendations, and improving communication and access to advice to better meet patients’ medical needs.
Shared Care encourages the initiatives it partners with to think innovatively, engage broadly and focus on measurable improvement. As a collaborative table, SCC recognizes both the integral role of specialist care in meeting patient needs and the foundation of primary care practice. Additionally, the Shared Care Committee facilitates the aligned activities of the Joint Clinical Committees.
The committee’s membership includes Doctors of BC and Ministry of Health appointees, with regular participation from each of the health authorities, and two patient/family representatives. Doctors of BC members include specialist physicians, general practitioners, and a GP with focused practice
