The Insurance Committee sets policy for the provision of insurance benefits for Doctors of BC members and fulfills the following objectives: 

  • Set policy regarding all matters related to Doctors of BC member insurance programs.
  • Review and accept or reject proposals made by Doctors of BC staff regarding the insurance programs.
  • Provide advice and guidance to the Health Benefit Trust Fund (HBTF) Board of Trustees regarding benefits provided under the HBTF.
  • Work in cooperation with the Benefits Advisory Committee (BAC), review matters related to the operation of the Physicians’ Disability Insurance plan; recommend plan changes to the BAC for presentation to the Joint Benefits Committee.
  • Recommend changes in policy and programs, and new programs, to the Board.
  • Review requests by members to intervene with insurers and advocate on their behalf when the Committee deems the insurer’s actions to be inappropriate.
