The Information and Security Standing Committee (IPSSC) is an external committee seeking a member who is a private practice general practitioner from either an urban or rural area.

As per the motion B16/06/03-11 passed at the June 3, 2016 Board meeting, this position will be for a one (1) year term and revaluated as to whether or not Doctors of BC should remain on this Committee.

The IPSSC’s mandate is to promote and oversee health information privacy and security across the BC Health Sector.  IPSSC is an interdisciplinary committee of individuals who can inform the strategic direction of information privacy and security; it is not an IM/IT committee.

In fulfilling the mandate, IPSSC operates in a manner that:

  • Balances health information protection between sharing to enabling care, decision making, and improving outcomes at all levels of the system versus the need for data stewardship, access control and privacy.
  • Furthers the integration of health information privacy and security into essential business activities.
  • Supports consolidated privacy and security assessments for CSI items.
