Log in hereThe AIC is a four person panel comprised of a Chair representing government; a Doctors of BC representative nominated by the Doctors of BC; a beneficiary representative nominated by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC; and a public beneficiary representative.
AIC, as defined in the Physician Master Agreement (PMA), reviews the billing practices of enrolled medical practitioners. The Medical Services Commission (MSC) has delegated to the AIC its powers and duties to audit and inspect medical practitioners under s.36 (1) to (12) of the Medicare Protection Act. AIC reports to the MSC.
The AIC has responsibility to ensure that services billed to MSP have been delivered and billed accurately, and to determine whether beneficiaries are being charged for services in contravention of the Medicare Protection Act. AIC is directly involved at the beginning and end of any audit. Before the audit of an enrolled medical practitioner may begin, the AIC must decide whether it should proceed and the specific nature and extent of the audit. AIC also then reviews each completed audit, makes its decisions after due deliberation, and finally makes recommendations for any actions to the MSC.
