Greater professional satisfaction for facilities based docs

November 5, 2015

I think we all realize the value that collaboration among doctors, health authorities, government, and other health care providers brings to improving not only the patient experience, but also the value it brings to us – the doctors who work on the front lines of health care every day.

Collaboration and engagement in the world of primary care has been a work in progress for a decade, and is seeing great results in improved patient outcomes and physician satisfaction. Since last year, this work has been progressing along for facilities based physicians as well. The two pilot sites in North Vancouver and Prince George have moved out of their trial modes and are now officially incorporated. And another 10 sites throughout the province are being developed. The key here is that both physicians and health authority leadership will benefit from a stronger and more meaningful engagement process, that in the end will improve patient care and the professional environment we all need to work within.

Each community is unique, so the work involved will be defined at the local level and the end result will be different from site to site. I really look forward to what the next year, the next five years, will look like for facilities based physicians and the patients receiving care.
