Divisions of Family Practice keeps BC students and residents UpToDate

August 6, 2014

More than 300 future doctors have signed up to access the online clinical resource UpToDate at no cost since the provincial Divisions of Family Practice office extended its member subscription to BC students and residents in June.

“We want our doctors of tomorrow to make a meaningful difference in the lives of their patients. Providing them with access to this important resource as they begin their studies and careers will help them achieve that,” said Doctors of BC President Dr William Cavers. “It’s also a great step on the pathway to building constructive relationships between Divisions and medical students and residents.”

Divisions of family practice are community-based groups of family physicians working together to achieve common health care goals. There are currently 34 divisions of family practice in BC that encompass 144 communities, and discussions are underway in up to another seven areas of the province. The Divisions initiative is the first of its kind in Canada. Local divisions are sponsored by the GPSC, a joint committee of the Ministry of Health and Doctors of BC.
