A Delicate Balance

December 1, 2011

Did you know 44% of BC physicians are not satisfied with their work-life balance?

Find a balance.

Maintaining a good work-life balance is challenging, particularly with the increasing demands placed on physicians as the population ages and the number of complex-care patients grows. Physicians must juggle a busy practice, teaching responsibilities, community initiatives, and research commitments in addition to family obligations, hobbies, and personal wellness.  Almost three-quarters of Canadian doctors agree that they are perceived as more professional if they maintain a good work-life balance, but many find it difficult to do so.

Resources exist to help physicians manage their workloads and find balance between their professional and personal lives. Programs like the BCMA’s Practice Support Program (PSP) aim to increase practice efficiency, quality of patient care, and job satisfaction among family physicians.
