New Policy Paper Defines Steps to Enhance Engagement

January 22, 2014

Doctors of BC has released a new policy paper that builds on the commitment we’ve made in our new strategic plan to enhance engagement. The paper defines and supports ways in which we, our partners, and stakeholders can better work together to create the best health care system for BC.

Through a review of the literature, the paper identifies the benefits of engagement and includes some of the barriers to achieving it. The barriers that are familiar to any physician, particularly those who are facility-based, include lack of time, limited resources and training, and organizational culture.

The paper provides three broad commitments and recommendations to improve and promote physician engagement. Essentially, the Doctors of BC is committed to supporting transparent decision-making and promoting effective medical leadership. We recommend that health authorities and the Ministry of Health provide meaningful opportunities and resources for physicians to partner and lead in improving the health care system.
