Audit & Inspection Committee looking for physicians to participate on audit team

February 12, 2014

Doctors who have undergone any form of audit understand it can be a stressful procedure. Help see a colleague through the process and gain experience along the way.

The Audit and Inspection Committee (AIC) is currently looking to fill Medical Inspector and Audit Hearing Panel positions for various specialties.

For the physician undergoing the audit, having a peer of the same specialty conduct the review is in their best interest, and helps to make the process more manageable.

That’s why, when an on-site audit is ordered, the Billing Integrity Program (BIP) prefers to match the medical inspector with the type of practice they are inspecting. All effort is made to obtain the best matched inspector for each review. Unfortunately, if a medical inspector with the same specialty does not come forward, the AIC will assign the next-best matched inspector to the role.

Once the audit is complete, if the parties are unable to come to a resolution of the issue, the case will proceed to a hearing before the Audit Hearing Panel. The Panel consists of three or more delegates, one of which is, again, a peer physician.

There are several specialties for which the committee is looking for medical inspectors and audit hearing panel members.
