LFP billing for facility-based care launches today

June 24, 2024

Today, billing under the LFP Payment Model begins for inpatient care, pregnancy and newborn care, long-term care, and palliative care in facilities.

The initial launch of the LFP Payment Model in February 2023 was an exciting milestone for family medicine and the expansion to include facility-based care builds on that success. The beginning of facility-based billing represents a monumental amount of work and sets a record in BC for the number of codes added to MSP/Teleplan at a single time.

LFP billing support

To support physicians with billing under the new LFP Payment Schedule (effective June 24, 2024), Doctors of BC and BC Family Doctors are available as a physician resource.

To incorporate facility-based care, most of the payment schedule has changed. It’s recommended that physicians review the payment schedule in full, even if they do not provide facility-based care. An overview of the major changes for clinic-based billing can be found on the BC Family Doctors’ website.

BC Family Doctors’ billing tools have been restructured and updated. Their Simplified LFP Guide provides a plain language guide of the new time and interaction codes and their Billing Question Library has more than a hundred new billing FAQs with detailed information on all areas of billing under the payment model.

Additional information can also be found on the Doctors of BC website

As always, family doctors can reach out for help by emailing , which is staffed by the Family Practice Services Committee (FPSC) Billing Support team. FPSC is a partnership between Doctors of BC and the BC Government.

LFP success stories

Since its launch, over 4,100 family doctors have enrolled in the LFP Payment Model. We’ve heard from many doctors that the LFP Payment Model has made a difference for them and their patients since its launch. Here are some success stories:

We invite other family doctors that have a story to share about their experience with the model and how it has changed their practice and positively impacted their patients to email a short blurb and a photo to .
