Dr Ahmer Karimuddin becomes next Doctors of BC president-elect

Doctors of BC members have elected Dr Ahmer Karimuddin as the new president-elect. His term will start January 2023.  

Dr Ahmer KarimuddinPracticing as a general and colorectal surgeon with a focus on colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease at St Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, Dr Karimuddin has helped care for thousands of patients across BC over the last 15 years. He has been a member of the Specialist Services Committee (SSC) since 2013, serving as co-chair for the last two years.

There is much work to be done on behalf of our health care system and our patients, and I look forward to amplifying the voices of my colleagues. As physicians, we must unite to advocate for our patients, for ourselves, and for a renewed culture of compassionate leadership in health care."

In addition to his participation in the SSC, Dr Karimuddin has held a number of other medical leadership roles including: President of General Surgeons of BC, President of the BC Surgical Society, President and Chief Negotiator for the Professional Association of Interns and Residents of Saskatchewan, and Vice President of the Canadian Association of Internes and Residents. He also served on the MOCAP Redesign Panel and the Tariff Committee.

He is also dedicated to training our surgeons of tomorrow through his roles as Clinical Associate Professor in Surgery and as Co-Director of the General Surgery Residency Program at UBC. 

Dr Karimuddin steps into his role as president-elect on January 1st, at which time Dr Josh Greggain, the current president-elect, will step into his role as president.
