As social gatherings big and small return to most areas of life, Walk with your Doc is also off to a healthy start. The September heatwave that blanketed British Columbia with warm, sunny weather was welcomed by 156 doctors as they walked side-by-side with more than 700 patients and community members at local Walk with your Doc events.
"We had great fun at the Sunshine Coast WWYD taking pictures, walking with friends, family, and our doctors." - Tara Buckle, Sunshine Coast.
Doctors lead a group walk for their patients in an informal setting that makes it easy to talk about the benefits of daily activity. Often working with allied health professionals, local governments, and community leaders, these relationships showcase how collaboration in health care benefit us all.
"The growth and success of the Burnaby Walk with your Doc event is entirely due to the collaboration and support of our partners, Doctors of BC, the City of Burnaby, Burnaby Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, and the Burnaby Division of Family Practice. The collective commitment of these organizations to the health and wellness of the Burnaby community is unmistakable on Walk with your Doc Day in Burnaby." - Leona Cullen, Event Coordinator
For more than six decades, CoHP has advocated to raise the standard of health care in BC through numerous public health initiatives, including 12 years managing Walk with your Doc.
Doctors of BC developed and funds Walk with your Doc through our Council on Health Promotion (CoHP) to provide a place for doctors to demonstrate their commitment to supporting active, healthy lifestyles, and to engage with their community outside of the formal ‘doctor-patient’ setting.
