Launching “Doctors of BC: Our stories”

March 4, 2022

We know the world expects a lot of physicians, an expectation of perfectionism that is impossible to maintain at all times. That’s why we need to remind British Columbians that doctors are humans too; they struggle, stress, and tire just like the rest of us. Given the hardships of the past two years, now more than ever it’s important to get this message across. That’s why we have asked our doctors to recount their personal stories through the “Doctors of BC: Our stories” campaign.

Today, we launch the first story of the campaign with a post from Dr Ioana Lupu, a rural family doctor working in a fairly isolated northern town for over 15 years, experiencing its unique challenges while also bearing witness to the resourcefulness and resilience of its doctors and patients along the way.Dr%20Ioana%20Lupu%20

“The medicine I have practiced in the North has filled my soul with every kind of emotion, and has much surpassed my expectations of what being a doctor would mean. We are not just doctors. We are badasses. And we love what we do,” says Dr Lupu.

The series portrays the life changing events and unique emotional journeys our BC doctors have experienced during their time in medicine or at a turning point in their career. The stories depict how a specific occurrence or encounter has changed their outlook on medicine, the course of their practice and/or their patients’ lives, and what they have learned from it. Starting today, we will post a new story every two weeks on our Doctors of BC Instagram feed and on our website.

“We are so excited to launch the “Doctors of BC: Our stories” campaign where we get to share the heartfelt and courageous experiences of our doctors here in BC. We look forward to telling more of these amazing stories throughout the next few months,” says our President Dr Ramneek Dosanjh.
