And the Be Active Every Day winner is...

November 5, 2015

Be Active Every Day is an annual Doctors of BC initiative to help kids be more active and make healthy choices. Taking place from October 5 – 30, BC doctors partnered with their local elementary school, to coordinate a month-long challenge to kids: be active 60 minutes every day.

More than 4800 students in 36 schools participated with 52 doctors, resident doctors, nurse practitioners, and local volunteers making presentations.  Five divisions of family practice worked to coordinate the challenge in their communities. Team Canada bike stars Sean Fincham and Miranda Miller motivated kids throughout the month long challenge via a series of videos talking about the 5-2-1-0 active healthy guidelines and teaching kids bike fit exercises.

By writing a one paragraph story about how they would use a bike to stay active, kids were entered into a contest to win a new bike.

This year’s winner is….

Ariana LaRush, who wrote to us from Campbell River!  Ariana sent us an excellent entry:

For her efforts, Ariana won a 2016 Rock Mountain Edge.

Runners up – Ariana, Zander, Taiya, and Dennis – each won a new bike helmet, and all entrants won a package of stickers featuring our bike stars Sean and Miranda.

Congratulations to all the participants for completing the challenge! Thank you to the presenters, organizers, and schools for making this year’s event such a great success. We look forward to seeing you all next year.
