Acknowledging our family doctors

November 9, 2015

Family Doctor Week

November 9 – 13

There is no doubt that family physicians are critical to the care and wellbeing of the population of British Columbia. Doctors of BC would like to join the College of Family Physicians of Canada in acknowledging the outstanding contributions of Canadian family doctors for their dedication to their patients and the delivery of high-quality health care.

This dedication often goes beyond the exam room. Across BC, as part of the Divisions of Family Practice initiative, family doctors are working together and with community partners to develop grassroots solutions to local health care challenges. The Divisions initiative is one of numerous programs developed by Doctors of BC and the provincial government that enable family doctors to identify health care priorities in their communities and be leaders in health care improvement efforts both locally and provincially.  In addition, family doctors are getting out into their communities to promote health and wellbeing through Doctors of BC events. In 2015, 330 physicians participated in Walk with your Doc in May, joining their patients for a walk in their community. This past month, 42 doctors and 5 resident doctors visited schools to speak with more than 4,800 students across the province, encouraging them to be active every day in October.

We invite you to follow @DoctorsofBC and @FamPhyscCan and share a story of how your family doctor has supported you and your community using the hashtag #LoveMyFamilyDoc.
