After more than a decade of working together to improve the health care system and deliver quality patient care - doctors and the government created a forum for partners, stakeholders and health care influencers to come together and share their knowledge and work.
Centered on the work of the Joint Clinical/Collaborative Committees (JCCs), a partnership of the government and Doctors of BC, the one-day JCC Showcase took place as a pre-event for this year’s BC Patient Safety and Quality Council Forum.
Almost 400 people attended the Showcase - the majority were doctors and health authority representatives. Also, eight provincial guests traveled from Newfoundland to learn more about the health care work being achieved in BC through our collaborative committees.
Currently, the collaborative committee concept that sees doctors and government working together to improve health care does not exist anywhere else in Canada. The showcase featured the diversity and depth of the work being achieved by the Joint Clinical/Collaborative Committees.
Dr. Matthew Chow, a Vancouver psychiatrist noted, “I expected to see a lot of health care administrators, instead I was so pleased to walk in and see so many of my physician colleagues – ones who actually touch the patients - here today.”
Core to the day, were the many presentations and workshops led by doctors about the work funded and supported by the JCCs. The fact that doctors took time out of their always busy schedules to talk about their JCC work is really a testament to what these committees are doing to change the landscape of BC’s health care.
The JCCs are four committees and each has its unique focus: GPSC supports family doctors, JSC focuses on rural medicine, Shared Care looks to improve the coordination of patient care and SSC supports specialists.
We have captured a lot of information about the day and JCC’s work, and will be sharing in the coming weeks. More on Joint Collaborative Committees
