Top 5 things to know about our Annual General Meeting

This weekend, Doctors of BC held our Annual General Meeting. We've compiled 5 key things that came out of the meeting that members may want to know.

1. There will be no dues increases in the coming year. The Chair of the Audit Committee Dr Michael Currie said this is due to a strong financial situation of the association.
   
   
   
   Membership dues have only increased once in the last ten years.
2. The grey tsunami of doctors. There was a lot of discussion among delegates on the challenges around physician retirements leaving many patients without family doctors, and the need for more medical and resident training spaces.
   
   
   
   The assembly passed two motions for Doctors of BC to engage with partners to support medical education for both family doctors and specialists.
3. Consultation coming this summer. Governance committee Chair, Dr Bill Cavers, advised that a web-based consultation will take place in July/August to seek members’ input into a new proposed governance model – one that would create a small board with a Representative Assembly.
   
   
   
   He said it’s important for members to give us their feedback, as the structure of the Board determines how we best represents and serve them.
4. Our new President begins his term. Dr Alan Ruddiman was presented with the chain of office to start his term as President. Dr Ruddiman said in his lunch-time keynote speech that his theme for the year will be “medical professionalism”.

5. Honouring our physicians. A number of physicians received awards for their contribution to patients, communities and the profession. Want to congratulate each and every one of them!
