Work plan to improve specialist services in BC

August 6, 2013

The BCMA hosted an evening session with specialist section heads on July 18 to provide details about the Specialist Services Committee (SSC) 2013-2014 Work Plan. This was the second event the BCMA held for section heads. The previous session discussed Credentialing and Privileging.

The purpose of the evening was to present the SSC work plan and gather feedback.  Specialist section heads were also encouraged to share this information with their members. The work plan defined three key areas of focus for the SSC in the coming year: stakeholder engagement and strategic planning, support delivery of specialist services, and advancing quality improvement in specialty care.

The SSC is a bipartite committee composed of BCMA board-appointed members and Ministry of Health officials. Under the 2012 Physician Master Agreement, the Specialist Services Committee (SSC) has $54.8 million in annual funding effective April 1, 2013 to support the work of the committee, which is to enhance and expand programs that support the delivery of high quality specialist services to British Columbians.
