Thinking of BC’s doctors and all British Columbians during this critical time

August 22, 2023

With fires raging in many areas of the province, our deepest sympathies go out to all British Columbians who are being impacted – including BC’s many doctors and other health care providers who are working under difficult circumstances or who may have been asked to evacuate.

Concerned man on phonePhysicians who might be feeling distress are encouraged to reach out to the Physician Health Program – trained counselors and expert peer supporters will quickly and confidentially assist you.

If you have commercial/office or home insurance through Doctors of BC partner, Westland Insurance, you may be eligible to claim under the provincial mass evacuation benefit. Contact Westland Insurance for more information or call 1-800-899-3093. For more details, please view this handout.

For doctors on the Telus plan, you will receive 50 GB of data top up to stay connected. If you have SmartHome Security with remote access through the app, you will be able to remotely monitor your home and property, as long as local power and communications infrastructure are not damaged. And for your patients who are Telus customers who may not be able to travel to see their doctor, Telus is offering the MyCare app for free so they can still access medical care in an emergency.
