How is BC going to resolve future challenges in the health care system for the next 25 years?

January 13, 2012

“How do we build a health care system that will serve a population which will look dramatically different than the one it serves today?” – Charting the Course, 2011

Due to the change in demographics projected in BC over the next 25 years, the Legislative Assembly of B.C. asked the Select Standing Committee on Health to look at ways to prepare our health care system for the future.

The BCMA supports the Assembly’s foresight into this challenge and submitted a report to the Committee that includes 10 recommendations to help address challenges in the system. These recommendations summarize several BCMA papers over the last 5 years.

The report provides background information, up to date statistics and public polling from Ipsos Reid, as well as highlighting innovation occurring in this province.  Today over 600,000 patients in BC are benefitting from enhanced care of chronic disease that is improving outcomes, avoiding costs and making patients happier.
