Dr Adam Thompson becomes next Doctors of BC President-Elect

December 6, 2024

Doctors of BC members have elected Dr Adam Thompson as their next president-elect. His term will start January 2025.

Working as a family physician in Courtenay, Dr Thompson was co-lead of the Longitudinal Family Practice Working Group, which led to the successful Longitudinal Family Physician Payment Model. Dr Thompson has also served Doctors of BC in numerous other leadership roles, including Board Chair and, currently, Vice Chair.

“I am grateful for the trust our members have placed in me to be their voice when president in 2026. I am privileged to be a physician, and believe in the capacity of our profession to do good. Healthcare remains in a challenging place, and we need to be able to stand up for physicians and patients. My commitment as president-elect, and president in 2026, is to do so.”

Alongside his work at the Board-level at Doctors of BC, Dr Thompson has held a variety of other medical leadership roles, including Vice-Chair of the Comox Valley Division of Family Practice, Co-Chair of the Comox Valley Collaborative Services Committee, and Comox Valley Division of Family Practice COVID-19 Physician Lead. He was a member of Doctors of BC’s Audit and Finance Committee and is presently Vice-Chair of the Governance Committee.

When he is not working or sharing his medical leadership skills with his peers, he is a devoted father and husband and likes to spend time skiing and mountain biking.

Dr Thompson steps into his role as president-elect of Doctors of BC on January 1st, at which time Dr Charlene Lui, the current president-elect, will step into her role as president.

Congratulations Dr Thompson.
