Doctors of BC Online Security

April 10, 2014

Dear Members:

You have no doubt heard about the so-called Heartbleed bug that has impacted a number of servers around the world, allowing other users to access password protected sites to obtain personal information. I want to assure you that the Doctors of BC web site is not vulnerable to this bug as we do not use the affected version of OpenSSL.

That said, a small risk may exist if you are using the same login credentials on our site as you log into other sites. If one of those sites was compromised, it may be possible (while very unlikely) that someone could gain acess to your online account.

I urge you, as a precaution, to follow best practices to ensure security of your online accounts. This includes regularly changing your online passwords and avoiding the use of the same passwords for multiple sites.

Yours Faithfully,

Allan Seckel, QC
Chief Executive Officer
