Doctors and government working together to increase number of hip-fracture surgeries

A pilot project at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria and seven other sites is dramatically increasing the number of hip-fracture surgeries done within 48 hours - while also decreasing complications, keeping seniors independent and saving money.

The project is one example of how doctors and government work collaboratively to provide quality patient care and promote innovation. Support comes from the Specialist Services Committee, a group of doctors and health ministry staff, from funds negotiated in the Physician Master Agreement. These funds are a repurposing of money earmarked for compensation; doctors invest their own negotiated money to support change and target vulnerable patients.
