Clarity around in-clinic immunizations: Information for physicians

October 16, 2023

Many physicians now have the opportunity, for the first time, to offer COVID-19 vaccinations in their own clinics during this respiratory illness season.

If you are a physician who is interested in providing the vaccines to your patient community, please contact the Medical Health Officer in your health authority. The MHO can provide more details about how to order both the influenza and COVID-19 vaccines, and/or assist you with ordering influenza and COVID-19 vaccines.

Patient communication

Patients across BC who have previously had COVID-19 shots are now receiving invitations by text message to book their updated shots through pharmacies or health authorities.

When patients receive their booking invitation email from the Get Vaccinated system, the options listed include only pharmacies, and health authority sites. This is because some physicians may not be offering in-clinic vaccines so the option to book with your own family physician is not included in this booking form. This is causing some confusion for patients and an increase in calls to clinics.

Doctors of BC encourages those physicians who are offering this service to consider adding a message to their clinic telephone messages or posting a notice in their offices, letting patients know whether they can get the vaccination at your clinic.
