Call for nominations: Doctors of BC 2023 elections

September 26, 2023

On September 26th, all members received the call for nominations for Doctors of BC’s 2023 elections. This is your opportunity to nominate candidates you want to represent you as your President-Elect and as your elected Representative Assembly (RA) Delegates – positions that the general membership will later vote on and elect.

It is also your opportunity to nominate candidates for the Board of Directors, Representative Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker, and various Statuary Committees – positions nominated by the general membership and elected by the RA.

Doctors of BC supports diversity in our governance bodies and encourages nominations from all members with the required skill set.

To be eligible to nominate an individual – or be nominated – you must be a Doctors of BC member in good standing in a category eligible to hold office and vote. All positions will take effect on January 1, 2024.

To help provide clarity we wanted to outline the following:

In 2023 the Board consisted of:

  • 3 Family Physicians who were serving a two-year term – Drs Adam Thompson, Karin Kausky & Daniel Horvat;
  • 3 Specialist Physicians who were serving a two-year term – Drs Elizabeth Swiggum, Lloyd Oppel, Barbara Blumenauer (resigned)
  • 1 Specialist Physician who was serving a one-year term that offsets the fact that the current President is a Family Physician - Michelle Teo (resigned);
  • The current President who serves a one-year term – Dr Josh Greggain (FP); and
  • The President-Elect who also serves a one-year term – Dr Ahmer Karimuddin (SP)

As of December 31, 2023 Drs Adam Thompson, Lloyd Oppel, and Josh Greggain will have concluded their terms, with only Dr Thompson being eligible to run for re-election.

Because our incoming President, Dr Karimuddin, is a Specialist, the Director who only sits for a one-year term must be filled by a Family Physician.
Therefore, the call for nominations for the 2024 Board of Directors is as follows:

  • 1 Family Physician (two-year term)
  • 1 Family Physician (one-year term)
  • 2 Specialist Physician (two-year term)
