BCMA statement on October 10th ruling by the BC Court of Appeal on Assisted Suicide

October 10, 2013

The October 10th BC Court of Appeal ruling reversing a lower court decision means assisted suicide for terminally ill patients remains illegal. Physicians will continue to follow the law and endeavour to make their terminally ill patients as comfortable as possible.

The topic of assisted suicide has always been a contentious one, for physicians and patients alike. Considering options for terminally ill patients is deeply personal and can be extraordinarily difficult. It is an issue that should continue to be discussed as physicians strive to provide the best care to their terminally ill patients.
